Art That Moves You

I have never really been one that understood art or really appreciated it in-depth – I would appreciate the colors or how striking a painting is but i never really dug for more. However, the first time I saw the artwork, A Helping Hand, by Yusuf Olayinka, I felt something.

The use of orange and brown to depict a young woman braiding her counterpart’s hair evoked a feeling of nostalgia, mixed with peace and joy – It made me remember being a young girl and being in that exact scenario countless number of times. It was deeper than just having your hair braided, it brought women of different ages together, made us a community. This experience made me realise that indeed art makes you feel and it speaks to you.

Art & The Human Experience

All forms of art are a glaring reflection of the Human experience – from music, to paintings, to sculptures and more. It is a means of communication that transcends language. Different types of paintings, textures and colors can evoke very different types of emotions in different people and I think that is simply fascinating.

What Makes Art Impactful?

Emotional Response : Art has the ability to evoke strong emotions from sadness to joy to shock to nostalgia. It evokes these emotions because it mirrors our feelings.

Intellectual Stimulation: Art enables us challenge our thinking by introducing us to newer thought processes/patterns we might not have thought about on our own.

In a world that is fast paced, art offers an opportunity for us to slow down, reflect and be inspired. By engaging with art, we allow ourselves to not only connect to the deepest part of our own selves but also other people. We encourage you to seek out art ion your own life – be it creating or just engaging with other people’s creation.
